Photographer Garrod Kirkwood takes London by storm (September 2009)

A photograph of Ray Winston by Garrod Kirkwood

Garrod Kirkwood, the North East England based photographer, has just completed a month long exhibition in the Capital City that was a roaring success.

He has a distinctive style that has a gritty, high contrast look, to give impact, drama and depth, which proved a hit was gallery goers.

Be it still life to landscape, or his more favored area, portraiture, casting a light on human nature and interacting with people from all walks of life.
Garrod is equally at ease with the famous and obscure, the daunting and life affirming, eccentric and conventional. He captures his subjects warts and all.

Drawing inspiration and influence from the likes of Albert Watson and Nadav Kander, Garrod’s obvious talent, after graduating in 2002 was spotted by award winning international photographer Alex Telfer and he was given the role of his assistant, which he carried out for 3 years.

Upon leaving Alex and embarking on his own journey, Garrod has been commissioned by agencies nationwide, shooting celebrities such as veteran actor Burt Kwouk, Ray Winston and a personal hero, Phil Daniels, star of the cult British film Quadrophenia.
