Steve Mayes sets a Precedent at the BIPP (May 2009)

This month sees Art Evolution photographer Steve Mayes awarded an Associateship at the British Institute of Professional Photography. Having applied at Licentiateship level Steve made history being the first applicant to be automatically upgraded to the next level. This recognition comes as no surprise to us at Art Evolution having loved his work for a number of years.

The British Institute of Professional Photography supports trains and qualifies professional photographers. It has approximately 3,500 members and the BIPP is the only professional photographic organisation to provide such services in the U.K. BIPP qualifications are highly regarded and are recognised across the world as a benchmark of excellence. So it was with great personal and professional courage that Steve Mayes took 20 prints from his stunning architectural photography portfolio, along with a body of evidence showing where his work has been used, to their head office in Aylesbury.
All 4 judges who viewed his portfolio were 'blown away' by the standard of his work, with one saying ‘it had been an honour to see them', and another saying that he'd 'set a precedent'!

Needless to say Steve was over the moon. But he’s not stopping there. Their highest level is a Fellowship, and he’s going to start working towards that straight away.

Steve comments “It was a tense time, waiting for the judges to make up their mind. They look at the photos while you wait, so it's the work alone that influences their decision. I was over the moon when they granted me the Asscoiateship. One of the four judges even said it had been an honour and a privilege to be part of the panel that day. It made my long trek to Aylesbury very worthwhile!”
