Mike McFarlane , the successful landscape photographer based in North East England has taken the move to allow others to benefit from his success and help to protect our fragile natural environment. For every print that Mike sells he will donate £10 to the John Muir Trust.
The John Muir Trust is one of the country’s leading guardians of wild land and wildlife. As a prominent membership organisation they carry out their charitable role through the ownership of land, the promotion of education and volunteer conservation activities.
Inspired by the wild places that he works and photographs in Mike has always felt a need to try to protect them and encourage others to do the same. Portraying the natural environment with his photographs did not seem to be enough, but until he heard well known Northern walking guide Jon Monks of Shepherd's Walks (www.shepherdswalks.co.uk) speak and heard that he gives £1 for each walking guide sold to local footpath preservation groups, he struggled with knowing the best way to do more to protect the environment than just make pretty pictures.
Mike said "By giving some of my profits to the Trust, I and those buying my work are giving something to help preserve our wild places and offset some of the impact that we all have on them."
Nigel Hawkins, Chief Executive of the John Muir Trust said “Mike McFarlane’s images are a tribute to the stunning beauty of our island nation. We are delighted with the support he is now giving us from the online sale of his pictures. These donations will go towards the Trust’s work to protect wild places across the UK.”
