The Sunderland Echo reports on the work Art Evolution and glass artists Emma Picton has completed with the University of Sunderland.
The future of glass manufacturing on Wearside may be uncertain but for one local glass artist the future couldn’t be clearer. Artist, Emma Picton, studied a BA Hons Glass, Architectural Glass and Ceramics, graduating from University of Sunderland in 2002 and thanks to online art gallery Art Evolution she has been working hard for the University once more.
Art Evolution help Emma secure a commission with the University to produce the Alumnus of the Year award. Emma’s stunning glass award was presented to alumnus Mr Ken Knight, to recognise the contribution he had made to his community. The ceremony was a double celebration for Ken as he also collected his MA in Education and Training.
Art Evolution’s Managing Director Victoria Anderson was delighted to provide a helping hand, having previously worked within the University’s Business Development department.
It was over two year ago that Victoria Anderson first thought about setting up Art Evolution. In fact, the inspiration for Art Evolution can from a web-based project that Victoria worked on whilst in the department.
Having had the opportunity to work with a number of North East artists, through the ‘Grow your Business’ project, which was aimed at helping rural business online, Victoria wanted to further support the work produced by talented artists by enabling wider access to their art.
‘It is currently difficult for artists to find outlets for their work. Gallery space in the North East is at a premium and as a result access to ‘bricks and mortar’ exposure is limited. On the reverse side it is difficult for individuals and corporates to access art work due to the limited outlets and opening hour restrictions.
Art Evolution decided to operate as an online gallery allowing our clients to our art work 24 hours a day, 365 days. The flip side is that our artist can exhibit their work elsewhere increasing their exposure.’ Comments Victoria Anderson.
‘It has been great working with the staff at University of Sunderland again and to top it off with one of their graduates. Emma Picton is an extremely talented glass artists and an illustration as to the level of creativity that has come out of the University, and continues to do so.
We have worked with Emma previously to create bespoke artwork for a client and she is destined to go far. Her artwork is stunning and her professionalism is second to none. It is pleasure promoting her work to our clients – she is a hidden gem and the University of Sunderland should be very proud of her.’
For those of you who can’t resist seeing that all the fuss is about Emma Picton’s artwork can be seen on the Art Evolution gallery which is www.artevolution.co.uk
