The North East England Campaign reports on art retailer, Art Evolution, and niche developers North Court Developments who are hoping to pull in the punters with their latest partnership. The Chain Locker is the most recent development to be completed by North Court and as ever it offers something unique to those who will live there.
The £2.31 million North Shields development by North Court Developments of 15 luxury apartments, started life as a riverside pub. There has been a brewery or inn on the site since the days when stage coaches took ship’s passengers to and from Newcastle when the tide prevented sailing upriver. Originally a malting house for one of the watering holes in the area, the building became a pub in 1905 and was known as the Crane Hotel until renamed The Chain Locker in 1986. The familiar historic frontage remains as it has been lovingly restored by North Court and as such offers a really unique home.
The development incorporates a partly-glazed building behind and around The Chain Locker. Arranged over five floors, the apartments combine open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas with one, two or three bedrooms and separate bathrooms. All have large windows overlooking the riverfront or the landscaped hillside gardens behind.
Victoria Anderson, Managing Director of Art Evolution, said ‘This is a fantastic development which skillfully blends the old with the new. North Court have created luxury accommodation, combing 21st century and Edwardian design, with striking results. The Chain Locker is a fabulous place to live, the views from the penthouse apartments are breath taking and lets face it what could be more interesting than living in an old public house!’
Art Evolution were commissioned by North Court Developments to create bespoke artwork for the developments show apartment and central stairwell. North Court are keen to carry quality through out their developments and feel art is a great way to do this and add a little extra decadence well.
Art Evolution artist Dennis Wood created four abstract seascapes paintings for the shared stairs which capture the location perfectly and added the final touches to the out standing development. He work can also be seen in the lounge and master bedroom of the show apartment which will open to the public on the 15th July.
