Karen Melvin
Karen Melvin is an established photographic artist who exhibits widely. The driving force of Karen’s work is story telling with a metaphoric twist. Her recent large-scale series of Paper Dolls combines the fantastical with the prosaic, the mythological with the documentary, and personal memories with the shared experience of fairytale. From kitchen domestic to tropical garden, her process involves a cut-out cast of fictional characters, props and in-situ assemblages meticulously arranged by hand. Staged scenarios form a magical domain where nature, colour and scale play their part in a tactile 'playground' reflected through time and different perceived persona.
