Jo Hume

Since moving to Northumberland some thirty years ago the gentle hills and wide seascapes have provided a continuous feast for the senses. Together with Yorkshire and Derbyshire I have found elemental moments in the land and seascapes of Northern England endlessly inspirational. Painting over several weeks, a process of creating layers of mark making resolves this inspiration into an expression and allows the painting a life and energy of its own. For the most part the paintings emerge in semi abstracted or abstract form, a summing-up of memory, feeling, imagination and experience. I have recently retired and can now spend more time doing what I like best! This new career follows a life time in art education as a head of art and later, following an MPhil in Fine Art, working with schools and teachers in the North East supporting learning, creativity and emotional intelligence through art. During the last few years I have exhibited in several galleries and arts festivals in Northumberland, Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
